The precautions we take against midges

This ‘adventure’ has lead me to two very important conclusions about the so-called ‘great outdoors’: 1) I don’t like them 2) If the world DID end by nuclear whatever, cockroaches wouldn’t be the only survivors; midges are invincible! You could spray them with DOOM and they’ll probably inhale it, laugh, and come right back to bite your ass.

So today we handed in part 1 of our mapping experience, worth 2 SMEs (Single Module Equivalents - i.e the same as taking two classes). While most of our MSci counterparts have now officially completed third year, us BSc students still have another 3 weeks of this torment. I’m beginning to accept the remote mountains of Scotland as my home and a casual mountain climb to 1800 feet as my daily bread… This picture was taken in the middle of a raincloud at about 450 m up a slippery, steep mountain yesterday afternoon.
